Big Boy Update

Hello! Yesterday, Emmett had his 4 month checkup and it went very well! He is 27 inches long (above 97th percentile for height); 18lbs 1oz (95th percentile for weight) and his head is 17 inches in circumference (80th percentile.) He actually had a bit of stranger anxiety with the doctor, and of course the shots were no fun, but overall it was a very positive visit - he's doing just fine.

Emmett has been a pretty great sleeper all along, but recently has been waking up in the middle of the night 2-3 times. Our pediatrician said that there's a good chance this wakefulness is just because, being the size of a 9 month old (!), he could use something with a little bit more substance than breastmilk and formula. So we decided to take his advice and start him on "solid" foods - rice cereal with apple juice and carrot puree. We tried it and it was pretty good, and the little guy seemed to agree - he gobbled up the entire thing! We'll keep you posted on how effectively it helped him sleep...

Here's the video of him trying "real" food for the first time --

And a few minutes later, he almost took Andrew's finger off --

That's awesome guys! I can't wait to hear how the big boy food helped him sleep. What a encouraging suggestion from the Dr. Always nice when they give you advice you can take home and do right away! And wow, 4 months! By the way, I couldn't stop grinning while watching that video of him eating for the first time. Precious!

Oh what a joy this site is every week for me to be able to watch Emmett's growth and also your growth as wonderful, caring parents (though this was not a surprise to me what great parents you would be)! Even the girls at work look forward to viewing the latest update on Emmett! Love and miss you all (of course this means Cleo and Otis also) XOXO! Grandma Kim
